Altamura is a historical town founded by Federico II di Svevia. He was one of the most influential figures in the twelfth century in Italy.
In the old town, Federico II di Svevia built an imposing cathedral, one of the most visited places in Altamura.
Where to go in Altamura
The town of Altamura is also well known for its cheese, wine, salami shops, incredible restaurants that serve the delicious food from the area and of course the world famous Altamura bread made of natural and local ingredients. Most of the bread is made in old ovens located in the old town.

Altamura is located in the Altamurgia Park, a territory predominantly hilly, with important historical discoveries.
Some of these are:
-l'uomo di Altamura which is a fossil of the genus Homo discovered in 1993 in a karst sinkhole in the Lamalunga. Recently the Kennis Brothers recreated a hyper-realistic model of the Altamura man.

-il Pulo is a huge crater with steep walls, great for mountain climbing.

-Cava Pontrelli is a quarry where dinosaur tracks were found from 83.5-95.8 million years ago.
